√ Style and Structure of Feature Articles | Text Type Studies | English

21:12
#iitutor #English #CriticalThinking https://www.iitutor.com/ Feature articles are a forum for a writer to express their opinion using a fact-based argument geared toward a particular agenda. They use a different pattern than newspaper reports. The Writer The writer is as much a part of the article as its content. Many represent ‘larger-than-life’ people Personal Agenda Personal beliefs are very much a part of an article, with commentary as important as facts Language and Structure Feature articles are a free-flowing conversation, with use of figurative and emotional language. Big Bold Headline! A feature article usually starts with a very short sentence to get the reader’s interest and state the issue. However, this can vary. Argument begins here. Feature articles will interweave facts and/or statistics. Quotes are not quite as important. Usually directed toward a point. May have single line statements to hammer a point home. Continues on a powerful conclusion. No Formal Structure There is no formal structure, and sequencing is ordered by argument rather than events Provides Background Generally will discuss an issue with background and links to many sources and analogies Circular Usually finishes where it begins, and takes an argument full circle Conversational A feature article will address its audience, often directly referring to them as ‘you, we, us, our’ Like an essay, a feature article is directed towards constructing an argument using facts, evidence and discussion. Unlike an essay, however, it features a personal conversation between writer and the audience. While there is no formal structure, it uses specifics and evidence to justify its opinion. It works like a public debate. Feature articles usually have the following characteristics: Use figurative and speculative language Often use humour, analogies or puns Incorporate facts in argument Anecdotal and conversational Often speaks to audience – uses 2nd person syntax (“you”) Use emotional language Feature articles are personal arguments Use their own structure and style Address an audience directly

√ Writing about Newspaper Articles | Text Type Studies | English

17:07
#iitutor #English #TextTypeStudies https://www.iitutor.com Writing about Newspaper Articles You can write about newspaper articles in a number of ways: and not just comprehension. To fully interpret the validity, effects and techniques of a news article, you need to ask some questions. How do they Grab Attention? An article can grab attention through a headline, an image, or both. The relationship between headline and image attracts a reader through by interest or emotional response. The first line of the article is important for maintaining this interest, or getting them to ‘click’. Are they Truly Objective? This bias can be seen in any way that a journalist adds personal opinion, be it political, social, cultural, religious or ideological. While many articles are completely objective and impersonal some do indicate bias or emotion. You must analyse what effect this bias has, if any, on the trustworthiness and validity of the article, and be critical. What Sources do they Use? A good test of the trustworthiness of a news article comes from the evidence or source that a news story uses. Some are generally trustworthy such as: Government spokesperson, police, professors, scientists, the subject of the article, photographic evidence Some are less than trustworthy, such as: Witnesses, ‘a source close to’, unrecognised ‘experts’, the subject of the article, ‘man on the street’ What Kind of Story is it? Not all news stories are the same. All stories connect and attract readers in different ways. They can be humorous, scandalous, sensational, fear-mongering, heart-warming or reflective. All stories want to connect with reader in some way, and through this, they appeal directly or indirectly to emotions and interests. How does it use Language? The final question you should ask is how techniques are used, such as: Exaggerated or sensationalist choices of language Emotional or figurative language Formal or colloquial style of language in reporting Puns or rhetorical questions in headline Any distinct layout or visual choices The file name must be E06103.flv

6 Types of Body Fat and How to Get Rid of It

10:39
How to get rid of annoying stubborn fat? How to get the body of your dreams in no time? There are 6 different types of body fat based on where on the body it is mainly accumulated. Here are the most effective ways to make fat disappear for every body type. Running or swimming at least 30 minutes every day will help you burn full upper body fat right off. If it seems impossible for you to fit any of those in your busy schedule, try brisk walking. Drink green tea. It’s a great natural fat burner because it’s loaded with antioxidants that can boost metabolism. Plus, if you’re doing some physical exercise, green tea will also enhance its effect. If you don’t eat breakfast to kick start your metabolism in the morning, you’ll feel hungrier, more tired and just groggy throughout the day, which will trick your body into eating more in an attempt to get energy. Find out how many calories you need on a daily basis using an online calorie calculator. It’ll take into account your gender, age, height, weight, level of activity, and your weight-loss goals. Then, you can just divide all the daily calorie intake number by 5 to figure out how many calories each meal should give you. Make sure that you’re getting enough sleep. Sleep deprivation can lead to hormonal imbalances, an increased appetite, and weight gain, which will result in fat being stored mostly in your belly and back. TIMESTAMPS Full upper body fat 0:45 Lower abdomen fat 2:17 Lower body fat 4:05 A bloated stomach 5:40 Lower body fat, including lower legs 7:23 A large stomach with upper back fat 8:42 Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY -Do aerobics because this type of fat appears due to a lack of physical activity. Stop consuming processed sugar, and forget about sugar-sweetened drinks. -Avoid stress and learn to relax. The stress hormone cortisol makes fat collect in the belly, so a good option for you is to meditate or do some breathing exercises. Drink green tea. It’s a great natural fat burner because it’s loaded with antioxidants that can boost metabolism. -Walk up hills and stairs. Riding a bike uphill or increasing the treadmill’s incline will also work. Your heart will beat faster, and you’ll have to work harder since you’re moving upward. Don’t skip breakfast. -Cut back on alcohol as most of its calories end up becoming belly fat. Eat more often but in smaller portions. -To avoid swelling, you need to drastically cut down on salty foods since salt causes fluid retention in your body. Don’t sit without moving for more than 30 minutes, try to stand up and walk around frequently. -The effective remedy for a large stomach and upper back fat is… sleeping. Eat more food that is rich in fiber. This means adding beans, peas, lentils, broccoli, oatmeal, whole-wheat pasta, avocados and raspberries to your diet. Articles (a, an, the) - Lesson 1 - 7 Rules For Using Articles Correctly - English Grammar

16:59
In this lesson, learn the 7 rules for using articles in English correctly. Also see - MOST COMMON MISTAKES IN ENGLISH & HOW TO AVOID THEM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Dax90QyXgI&list=PLmwr9polMHwsR35rD9spEhjFUFa7QblF9 For more FREE English lessons, SUBSCRIBE to this channel. Transcript: Hello and welcome. In this lesson, I will teach you the seven rules that you need to know for using articles in English correctly. Articles are the words ‘a’, ‘an’, and ‘the’. There is a final quiz at the end of the lesson for you to test your understanding. OK, the first rule is about where to use ‘a’ and where to use ‘an’. So rule number one is use ‘a’ before a consonant sound, and ‘an’ before a vowel sound. So in all of these words – you see that they start with a consonant sound. Cat starts with /k/, dog starts with /d/, boy with /b/, girl with /g/, house with /h/ and tree with /t/. So we say ‘a cat’, ‘a dog’, ‘a boy’, ‘a girl’, ‘a house’, ‘a tree’ etc. Notice that in natural speech, we don’t say ‘a’, we say ‘uh’ – like ‘a cat’. In this next set of words, you see that, they all start with a vowel sound – apple starts with /ae/, engineer starts with /e/, ice-cream with /ai/, old with /o/, umbrella with /uh/. So we say ‘an apple’, ‘an engineer’, ‘an ice-cream cone’, ‘an old womman’, ‘an umbrella’ and so on. In speech, we don’t say ‘an’, we say /ən/. Let’s do a small exercise. You see ten items on the screen. For each one, I want you to say if you would use ‘a’ or ‘an’ before it. Stop the video, think about it, then play the video again and check. OK here are the answers. Did you get them all right? I want to focus on items number seven to ten because these are a little tricky. Number seven is ‘a university’ because even though ‘university’ starts with the letter ‘u’ the first sound of the word is not a vowel sound. We don’t say /ooniversity/. We say /yoo-nə- vər-si-ty/ so that first sound is a /y/ sound, which a consonant sound, so we say ‘a university.’ Number eight is similar. The word ‘European’ starts with a /y/ sound, so ‘a European tour.’ In number nine, the spelling has an ‘h’ at the start but that ‘h’ is silent. We don’t say /hau-ər/, we say /au-ər/. The first sound is an /au/ sound which is a vowel sound, so this is ‘an hour’. In the same way, in number ten, we say MA. ‘M’ starts with an /e/ sound which is again a vowel sound, so ‘an MA in English’. OK let’s move on to rule number two: Use ‘a’ and ‘an’ ONLY with singular, countable nouns. We say that a noun is countable if we can count it – one, two, three, four etc. All of these words on the screen are countable. We can say one elephant, three cars, ten teachers, five hundred onions and so on. Now if you talk about one person or thing, like one elephant or one car, then that’s called a singular noun and if you say ten teachers or five hundred onions, those are called plural nouns. Uncountable nouns cannot be counted in this way. Nouns like water, sugar, milk, love, anger, knowledge are some examples. If you think about it, you cannot say “I drank four waters” or “I want eight milks”. To a person, you can say “I love you” but you can’t say “I have five loves for you” – that doesn’t make any sense. So these are all uncountable. Alright, so the rule is - you can only use ‘a’ and ‘an’ if you’re talking about one person or one thing. Let’s do another quick exercise. Here are ten items again. This time, you see ‘a’ or ‘an’ before the nouns, but some of these are wrong. They should NOT have ‘a’ or ‘an’ before them. Stop the video, identify the mistakes, then play the video again and check. OK, here are the answers. Number three is wrong because ‘shirts’ is a plural and you cannot use ‘a’ or ‘an’ before a plural noun. Number five is wrong because ‘happiness’ is uncountable, so again, ‘a’ or ‘an’ cannot be used there. The same goes for number six – water is uncountable. Number nine is wrong because ‘doctors’ is a plural – you can say ‘a doctor’ but not ‘a doctors’. And finally, in number ten, advice is an uncountable noun – so you cannot ask for ‘an advice’. Now a quick note here: the article ‘the’ can be used with all kinds of nouns – singular or plural countable nouns, and uncountable nouns. OK, so let’s now talk about how to choose between ‘a’ or ‘an’ and ‘the’. Here’s rule number three: Use ‘a’ or ‘an’ to talk about a person or thing unknown to your listener. And use ‘the’ to talk about a person or thing known to your listener. For example, “My sister has two computers: a PC and a laptop. The PC is quite old but the laptop is brand new.” I say ‘a PC’ and ‘a laptop’ because that’s the first time I’m mentioning the two computers. That is, until this point, they are unknown to you, the listener.

4 Types of Toxic Cookware to Avoid and 4 Safe Alternatives

09:18
We all know the importance of eating healthy, but not everyone knows that the cookware you use to prepare your dishes is just as important as the food itself. Even the healthiest diet can result in severe health problems if your pots and pans are toxic. Find out which cookware you should avoid by all means for the sake of your own health and the health of your family. The non-stick properties of Teflon cookware are achieved with a coating of PTFE. This is a plastic polymer that, when heated above 572°F, starts to release toxins. These toxic fumes lead to flu-like symptoms called polymer fume fever, informally known as Teflon flu. Another chemical compound found in Teflon cookware is especially threatening since it tends to stay in the body (as well as in the environment) for long periods of time. Try cast-iron cookware instead. It even comes in non-stick varieties. It doesn't leak anything toxic into your food and is actually a nice natural way to increase your body’s iron levels. Though aluminum cookware is usually coated, the coating is prone to chipping, allowing the toxic metal to get right into your food. As for aluminum foil, using it while cooking is even more dangerous. In fact, there’s an established safe amount of aluminum the human body can manage daily, and that’s 20 mg per pound of body weight a day. When you wrap your food in aluminum foil and cook it this way, the amount of this substance that leaks into the food significantly exceeds the permissible level. Consider using glass cookware instead. If you’ve just enjoyed some fish in lemon juice or stewed tomatoes cooked in an uncoated copper pot and you find yourself suffering from extremely unpleasant symptoms (such as vomiting blood, light-headedness, yellowy skin, or gastrointestinal distress, among others) call 911 immediately. Try this safe alternative instead: stainless steel. Just make sure you're buying food-grade stainless steel since this is the only type that doesn't contain any nickel or chromium. Soft ceramic coating isn't durable enough and starts chipping after a few months of daily use. When this happens, lead and cadmium sometimes found in the coating will end up in your food and, thus, in your body. Lead poisoning is one of the most dangerous types of metal poisoning and can result in abdominal pain, headaches, infertility, and other health complications. Try this safe alternative instead: 100% ceramic cookware. TIMESTAMPS Teflon cookware 0:38 Aluminum cookware and aluminum foil 3:31 Copper cookware 5:12 Ceramic-coated cookware 6:54 SUMMARY -Teflon contains plastic polymer that, when heated above 572°F, starts to release toxins. Try this safe alternative instead: real cast-iron. This is a nontoxic cooking option that truly withstands the test of time. It heats well and evenly throughout. -Aluminum is a neurotoxic metal. Elevated levels of aluminum in the body have been linked to several central nervous system diseases, including Alzheimer's and ALS. Try this safe alternative instead: glass cookware. It’ll never release anything toxic when heated, it doesn’t hold onto any old flavors or odors, and it's not only durable but also eco-friendly. -Copper cookware, especially when it isn’t coated, can easily send you to the ER with a bad case of metal poisoning. And that’s because it can release copper when you cook acidic foods. Stainless steel is a great cookware option: it's relatively lightweight, scratch-resistant, and comes in non-stick varieties. -Soft ceramic coating isn't durable enough and starts chipping after a few months of daily use. When this happens, lead and cadmium sometimes found in the coating will end up in your food and, thus, in your body. Try this safe alternative instead: 100% ceramic cookware. This is one of the best and safest options out there since it's made with completely natural materials, it isn't toxic, and it won't chip or peel off. The Information Timeline as Told by a Baby Elephant

03:27
Welcome to, "what is the Information Timeline?" from the Campus Library. So, you have a topic for your paper or assignment that you would like to research. How do you know what types of information will be available on your topic, where different sources can be found, and how to evaluate them? The INFORMATION TIMELINE is a concept that we use to explain the idea that information is created and distributed at different speeds based on type, and that we have different criteria for evaluating these different types of sources. Let’s look at an example. Let’s say that an adorable baby elephant is born at the zoo. Perhaps this elephant was born premature, but she beats the odds and pulls through. What’s more, she has a sassy personality, and an adorable name like...Eloise. Immediately, the zoo’s social media accounts start to post about Eloise, and she’s a hit. Before long, she has hundreds, and then thousands of followers. Within a day or two, local newspapers pick up her story, then national ones. Internet news sources and blogs might also report the story at this point. These sources do not take long to create and distribute, which is why we see and hear them first. In the weeks and months that follow, magazine editors may use and analyze the news sources already created and write longer, more detailed articles about the topic. Magazine articles generally take longer to create due to their depth of analysis. By the way, the sources we’ve looked at so far are referred to as popular sources - they’re created for a general audience to inform, describe, or entertain. Okay, back to the Eloise the elephant. Because Eloise was part of a breeding program and was born prematurely, scientists or scholars might write about her in zoology or veterinary research journals, which are often found in library databases. This would involve meticulous original research, and could take many months, or even years to be published Years down the road, the information from the popular sources and the scholarly articles related to Eloise will be analyzed and used to write books and encyclopedia articles. Keep in mind that most of the types of sources we’ve discussed can be accessed in print or digital format. Remember that *how* you access the information is not as important as who created it and where it fits on the information timeline. The process that led to these sources’ creation is important to consider as you search for, analyze, evaluate, and cite the sources relevant to your own research. If you have questions about this, just ask a librarian. Music Info: "Look Busy" by Kevin MacLeod Template Info: "Puck" on SlidesCarnival

34 DELICIOUS FOOD HACKS WITH CHEESE AND OTHER GOODIES

10:25
Simple recipes with cheese for everyone There is no denying that cheese is delicious, especially when it comes to cooking with cheese. There are limitless recipes you can try with all different varieties of cheese, such as mozzarella, parmesan cheese or cheddar cheese. Since it is such a delicious ingredient for cooking and filled with protein we created some simple and delicious recipes with cheese that can try right away. In addition, we included some bonus cooking hacks and tips to make your time in the kitchen more enjoyable. 1. Simplest macaroni and cheese recipe. If you are at work or would like to have macaroni and cheese as a snack instead of making a huge pot of food. Try this little trick that will literally take you 3 minutes to make this meal. In a mug, add a scoop of pasta, then, add the adequate amount of water and microwave for 2 minutes. Stir it really well and make sure there is no more water left in the mug. Then add some milk and cheese and stir until the cheese into the mug and Bon Appetite. 2. Delicious cheese toastie recipe If you would like to have a nice cheese toast fast but you don't own a grill, don't let that stop you. Apply some butter on a slice of bread on both sides, then, add two slices of cheddar cheese and then another slice of bread with butter spread on it. Then, place your sandwich in a kitchen foil and seal it. After that, take your clothing iron and place it on top of the toastie for a couple of minutes max, then turn it and press the other side as well with your clothing iron and, there you have it. 3. DIY cheddar sticks This might as well be the most delicious treat in the whole world. Take a block of cheddar cheese and cut it in rectangular blocks. Place one wooden stick in each block. Then, dip it into flour, after that dip it into an egg wash, and finally in breadcrumbs. Lastly, boil some oil and fry your cheesy sticks. Enjoy with some ketchup or the sauce of your choice. 4. Oil Hack! Instead of accidentally pouring excess oil on your food or your frying pan. Pour some oil in a clean spray bottle and start spraying. This way you'll be able to monitor how much oil you consume and also keep your meals healthier. 5.How to make your own iced coffee Make your filter coffee, or your espresso, or your instant coffee with hot water as you would normally do with or without sugar. (Do Not add milk). Then pour it into your ice tray and place it in the freezer. When it's time for you to have a nice glass of iced coffee, instead of running to the closest coffee shop, just take 5-6 cubes of the iced coffee you prepared, place them in a glass with some milk or water and stir. Enjoy! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Timestamps: 0:07 - DIY mugshot mac and cheese 0:33 - Cool cheese toastie 1:12 - Cheese grate hack 1:34 - DIY cheesy sticks 2:13 - Delicious ham and cheese toastie recipe 4:02 - Cookie decorating trick 4:32 - How to reseal a plastic bag 5:04 - How to make your bananas last longer 5:20 - Amazing oil trick 5:51 - How to soften hard bread 6:07 - Frozen yogurt treats 6:22 - DIY peeler 6:34 - Strawberry and chocolate recipe 7:34 - Ice tray hacks 8:01 - How to make iced coffee 8:51 - Oreo cookies trick 9:23 - How to cut a watermelon (easy) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/5Minute.Crafts.Girly/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/5.min.crafts/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/5m_crafts Subscribe to 5-Minute MAGIC: http://bit.ly/2ldditZ 5-Minute Crafts KIDS: https://goo.gl/PEuLVt The Bright Side of Youtube: https://goo.gl/rQTJZz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.brightside.me/ Music by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com/

25 SIMPLE RESIN CRAFTS THAT WILL DEFINITELY LEAVE YOU INSPIRED

15:20
SIMPLE RESIN CRAFTS It looks like if I’m going to want to tackle this resin trend, I’m going to need to invest in some new craft tools. It’s definitely a specialized craft that will require a few new things. Here’s what I’m considering. Resin – Shocker! You need some resin to make a resin craft. There are different types for different applications, so if you start a project, make sure you get the right stuff! Heat Gun or Butane Torch – They help get rid of bubbles. I also saw one tutorial that used a lamp placed directly over the project so that it was getting some heat from the light bulb. Dremel Multi Tool – I saw the Dremel multi tool used for a couple of different purposes. It was used to sand and polish the resin to get that glossy shine. It was also used as a drill in some of the jewelry tutorials I found so that the chain could be added to the pendant. Packing Tape – I was surprised to see packing tape included in many of the smaller scale projects that I found. It helps to keep your piece from moving around and stops the resin from pouring out of the bottom/sides of your project. Straws – This is another odd ball thing to use, but many of the tutorials called for using a straw to blow out the bubbles that might be in the project. I Lost $1,007,905 Selling Shirts for Serial Killers - King of Retail - Let's Game It Out

12:05
ANYONE can create a clothing store, sell awesome shirts, and make a bundle. But can you sell all the wrong shirts, almost get successful, and then willfully hemorrhage $1,007,905? Subscribe if you enjoy! ► http://bit.ly/letsgameitout_show Twitter ► https://twitter.com/letsgameitout Facebook ► https://www.facebook.com/letsgameitout ---------- Check it out on Steam! ► https://store.steampowered.com/app/968250/King_of_Retail/ More about King of Retail (from Steam): King of Retail is a store management simulation game, where you as the owner of a new store must make the right decisions to make your store thrive and bring you the big bucks. Can you handle the pressure, or will you fail miserably in a big bankruptcy? As the owner and manager you have a lot of responsibilities on a daily basis. You must: Choose the direction of your store Should it be a Shoe Store for the fashionable type, an Electronics Store for your everyday needs, or a giant Hypermarket that sells a bit of everything? Not everything will work. Trying to sell high-fashion, high-priced items in the poor part of town will not generate endless queues at your register. Will you try to dominate a competitive market, or go in an unexplored direction. Control the article flow For an article to be taken home by a customer, a lot of things must be taken care of. First you must select and order the articles. For a delivery to take place, the storage space must be able to receive and handle the delivered articles. The sales area must have the right displays and registers to showcase and sell the articles. Building a good relationship with your suppliers is key to be able to sell their more exclusive items. Oh, and by the way, which article should be the first for your customers to see when they enter your store? The bulk selling jeans, or the hyped silk shirt? Get people inside your store Build your reputation among your customers, and make your store the most sought after in town. A good marketing scheme, along with happy customers will work wonders for your income. But don't oversell your idea. If you can't keep what you promise, the customers will leave the store dissatisfied, and nothing ruins a store quicker than unhappy customers. Please the customer Create an enjoyable atmosphere for your customers to shop in, and theme your store, so they will know it is YOUR store they have entered. Make sure they receive the help they need, and that the lines for the registers don't grow too long. Manage the in-store marketing, so that both the fashionistas and the discount-hunters knows where to go, and which article to pick. Manage your personnel When you have too much on your plate to handle yourself, it might be the time for you to get some staff. Find interesting candidates among the applications. Conduct interviews, get a feel for the person, and decide if they match the role you need taken care of. Negotiate their salary and hire them. Keep them happy, and make sure they are not overworked. A great working climate gives great dedication. But you still need to sort the slackers from the workers. Invest time in the right persons, and train them to become better so when you need a stand-in for yourself, when you move to the next store, you can pick from your own home-grown talents. Optimize the store The difference between a good store and a great store lies in the detail. Weed out the poor selling articles, and get more of the good ones. Make sure you don't order unnecessarily many articles, but still enough that you don't run out. Optimize the prizes to increase the income. Find the customer patterns and adjust the opening hours accordingly. Plan an efficient staff schedule, so you don't pay people for doing nothing. Prepare for big events Is a VIP coming? Christmas soon? Black Friday? Can you spot the next big trend before anyone else? Adjust your actions according to the events occurring in a dynamic city that changes day by day. All of this is is just an ordinary day as a store owner. Are you ready to take on the challenge? If yes, then King of Retail is the game for you. ---------- I Lost $1,007,905 Selling Shirts for Serial Killers - King of Retail - Let's Game It Out #LetsGameItOut #KingOfRetail #Simulator "Winner Winner" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ I also used this music in my outro: "Werq" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
