What is ABSOLUTE RETURN? What does ABSOLUTE RETURN mean? ABSOLUTE RETURN meaning & explanation

What is ABSOLUTE RETURN? What does ABSOLUTE RETURN mean? ABSOLUTE RETURN meaning - ABSOLUTE RETURN definition - ABSOLUTE RETURN explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. The absolute return or simply return is a measure of the gain or loss on an investment portfolio expressed as a percentage of invested capital. The adjective "absolute" is used to stress the distinction with the relative return measures often used by long-only stock funds that are not allowed to take part in short selling. The hedge fund business is defined by absolute returns. Unlike traditional asset managers, who try to track and outperform a benchmark (a reference index such as the Dow Jones and S&P 500), hedge fund managers employ different strategies in order to produce a positive return regardless of the direction and the fluctuations of capital markets. This is one reason why hedge funds are referred to as alternative investment vehicles (see hedge funds for more details). Absolute return managers tend to be characterised by their use of short selling, leverage and high turnover in their portfolios. Although absolute return funds are sometimes considered not to have a benchmark, there is a common one: the funds should do better than short-dated government bonds (e.g. T-bills in the United States). For example, if such "cash" instruments yield 15%, at the same time a certain fund returns 5%, that would be considered not very good. In the case where the cash rate is close to zero, such as the early 2010s decade, this makes little difference. Some absolute-return managers are very active with their portfolios, buying and selling shares more frequently than normal investors, because they focus on short-term investment opportunities lasting less than 90 days. Turnover is the rate at which managers rebalance their portfolios, and among other things it depends on the hedge fund's size: in 2008 hedge funds with less than 15M USD in AUM (assets under management) had a 46.9% turnover per month whilst funds with over 250M USD in AUM had only 9.8%.

What is an Absolute Return Strategy?

01:27
Welcome to the Investors Trading Academy talking glossary of financial terms and events. Our word of the day is “Tax Wrapper” There are two main types of tax-incentivized investment: individual savings accounts and pensions, including self-invested personal pensions called Sipps. Between ISAS and pensions alone, investors can tuck away over £50,000 a year, or £100,000 for a couple. If they have children, a further £3,720 for each child can be added through junior ISAS, and another £3,600 a child through children’s pensions. Those willing to take on the higher risk of investment into new venture capital trust issues can add another £200,000 to that total. In other words, investors can shelter significant amounts of their savings from tax without straying into any celebrity-style tax planning. Each of these tax wrappers has different characteristics. From an investment perspective, the treatment of income and the accessibility of the assets within each wrapper are important. The most obvious reason investors might come into this category is that they have a high income, or assets that they need to invest. These are people who can comfortably invest the full allowance in their ISAs each year and are now having to contend with reductions in the amount they can save in a pension. They’re not necessarily wealthy (or ‘high-net-worth’ as we say nowadays). Head teachers, doctors, senior executives are all in danger of exceeding the reduced lifetime allowance. Even their standard work pension scheme could exceed the new £1.25 million limit after 30 or 40 years’ growth. And they have to face a significant risk of the allowance coming down even further in years to come. For these people having all their eggs in the pension basket could be a mistake. Compare Mutual Funds | Alpha, Beta, Standard Deviation & Sharpe Ratios | Mutual funds for Beginners

06:45
Comparing two mutual funds can be a tricky task. Comparing funds only based on their past performance is not a right method to compare, there are lot of other factors you should consider like AUM of funds, experience of the fund, Fund Manager, Fund house overall performance and Risk Ratios. Actually, these ratios are referred to as measures of Risk. But, they measure the volatility associated with a financial instrument. This volatility leads to Risk and correspondingly understand the return profile of the fund too. Let’s now discuss more details about these ratios like Standard Deviation, Alpha Ratio, Beta Ratio and Sharpe Ratio and try to understand their importance when selecting the right and best mutual fund scheme. You need to give importance to both returns and measures of volatility while short listing mutual fund schemes. Absolute Return vs. Average Rate of Return vs. CAGR [MALAYALAM / EPISODE #5]

06:48
In my previous video, I introduced my favorite financial tool — a CAGR Calculator. Today I’m comparing 3 kinds of returns: Absolute Return vs. Average Rate of Return vs. Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR). There are more kinds of returns namely: Relative Returns, Risk-Adjusted Return, Rolling Returns, Internal rate of Return(IRR), Extended Internal Rate of Return (XIRR), etc. But I believe Absolute Return, Average Rate of Return, and CAGR are the must-knows. I have compared all the 3 kinds of returns using the same example. That is, I assumed that you bought a stock at Rs. 1,000 and sold it for Rs. 2,000 after 5 years. And then there’s a Onevestor thing. Because there’s another reason why I made this video and that's the new Mutual Fund (or rather SIP) culture that’s happening in our country. What is Mutual Fund Benchmark & Category? Why is Benchmark important?

04:29
You must have seen lot of reference to Mutual Fund Benchmarks and category averages in our Fund Review videos and must be wondering what exactly does that mean. Well, Benchmark is a point of reference that tells you how a mutual fund has performed vis-a-vis its peers and the market. In the year 2012, SEBI made it mandatory for fund houses to declare a benchmark index. This benchmark is independent and is based on the objectives of your fund. Similarly, Mutual Funds are divided into various categories based on their objectives. Example, all large cap funds are categorized together and similarly all Liquid funds are categorized together. How To Become A Millionaire: Index Fund Investing For Beginners

15:51
Index Fund Investing for beginners: This is one of the best investments that requires very little work, almost no skill, and has some of the best overall returns. Here’s why - enjoy! Add me on Instagram: GPStephan The YouTube Creator Academy: Learn EXACTLY how to get your first 1000 subscribers on YouTube, rank videos on the front page of searches, grow your following, and turn that into another income source: https://bit.ly/2STxofv $100 OFF WITH CODE 100OFF (Limited Time Only) Merch: http://www.GrahamStephanStore.com/ What IS an index fund? An index fund is basically just a group of investments that you can invest your money into, and then you’ll own a small percentage of the entire thing. Index funds track the entire market as a whole, rather than one specific stock. Why Invest in an Index Fund: They have very low fees. This is because indexes are very simple to put together, very simple to manage, there isn’t much overhead, and those savings get passed on to you. This is also what’s known as a PASSIVELY managed fund. You’re getting an entire portfolio of stocks that automatically gets balanced and adjusted over time, without doing any work, and you pay as low as 0.04% annually. This is the opposite of a MUTUAL FUND, which employs professional stock pickers who aim to generate market-beating performance. However, the additional overhead expense associated with this, as well as the fees incurred by buying and selling, ultimately gets passed on to you, as the investor, in the form of higher fees. And that is WITHOUT the guarantee of actually beating the market. Second Advantange: The majority of investors will get a HIGHER return long term with an index fund than they will by investing in individual stocks on their own. Several studies have suggested that over 92%-95% of portfolio managers could not out perform the market index over a 15-year period. And these figures are SO MUCH WORSE for the average individual investors. Third Advantage: Diversification. Even if you have 20 individual stocks in your portfolio, one of them dropping in price could cost you a lot of money. On the other hand, if you buy the SP500 500 index fund, your investment will depend on 500 different stocks, only three of which account for more than 2% of the entire index. This means having a few companies go down or up won’t make a huge difference in your portfolio, but you get the advantage of riding the entire market as a whole as they rise in value over time. Fourth Advantage: It’s easy. I also acknowledge that I am not a stock market expert. I cannot buy and sell stocks that will consistently beat the market long term, nor do I have an interest in spending that much time watching stock charts and reading news so I can make the proper decisions. Source: https://mymoneywizard.com/3-fund-portfolio/ How to do this: My favorite index fund investing method is called THE THREE FUND PORTFOLIO: * US Stocks: Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund (VTSAX) * International Stocks: Vanguard Total International Index Fund (VTIAX) * Bonds: Vanguard Total Bond Market Index Fund (VBTLX) That’s it. This gives you the broadest diversification at the absolute cheapest cost. Not only that, but because you’re investing in multiple asset classes, you’re diversified through three mostly uncorrelated markets, and that protects you against any swings from one individual market. How to calculate SIP returns? | How to use XIRR formula in Excel? | What is XIRR? | Yadnya

02:43
Cash inflows and outflows may not always be evenly matched and instead these could be at irregular intervals. For example, in a money-back plan or in a mutual fund SIP. XIRR is a function in Excel for calculating internal rate of return or annualized yield for a schedule of cash flows occurring at irregular intervals. In a SIP, you keep investing regularly over a long period and get back the maturity amount upon exit. SIP investments happen on a pre-decided date and even the amount is fixed, and depending on the NAV of the scheme on that day, you get certain number of units. Hence, you keep accumulating units from the day your SIP starts. On the day you exit the scheme, i.e., redeem your total units, you get the maturity amount, which is NAV (of redemption day) multiplied by total units (on redemption day). Now, to know how much returns ones scheme has generated, you may use the XIRR (a function in excel). It's simple and one doesn't even require the NAV of any date.
