Martin Eden Jack LONDON (1876 - 1916) Martin Eden (1909) is a novel by American author Jack London, about a struggling young writer. It was first serialized in the Pacific Monthly magazine from September 1908 to September 1909, and subsequently published in book form by The Macmillan Company in September 1909. This book is a favorite among writers, who relate to Martin Eden's speculation that when he mailed off a manuscript, 'there was no human editor at the other end, but a mere cunning arrangement of cogs that changed the manuscript from one envelope to another and stuck on the stamps,' returning it automatically with a rejection slip. While some readers believe there is some resemblance between them, an important difference between Jack London and Martin Eden is that Martin Eden rejects socialism (attacking it as 'slave morality'), and relies on a Nietzschean individualism. In a note to Upton Sinclair, Jack London wrote, "One of my motifs, in this book, was an attack on individualism (in the person of the hero). I must have bungled, for not a single reviewer has discovered it." (Introduction by Wikipedia) Genre(s): General Fiction Language: English This recording is in the Public Domain.

This is a story about an uneducated guy who goes through lots of trials and dedicated himself and his life to literature. This is a story about a person who wants to become a part of the upper class, become equal to the people from the upper class, but eventually, Martin becomes aware that intellectually he is higher than most of them and he sees how shallow and clueless they really are. It makes him frustrated and disappointed. He doesn't want to be around those people anymore and he can never be around the working class either because no one there can give what he want, no one can share his aspirations and his knowledge. Jack London - Famous Authors - Wiki Videos by Kinedio

01:33
John Griffith "Jack" London (born John Griffith Chaney, January 12, 1876 – November 22, 1916) was an American novelist, journalist, and social activist. A pioneer in the then-burgeoning world of commercial magazine fiction, he was one of the first fiction writers to obtain worldwide celebrity and a large fortune from his fiction alone. Some of his most famous works include The Call of the Wild and White Fang, both set in the Klondike Gold Rush, as well as the short stories "To Build a Fire", "An Odyssey of the North", and "Love of Life". He also wrote of the South Pacific in such stories as "The Pearls of Parlay" and "The Heathen", and of the San Francisco Bay area in The Sea Wolf. London was part of the radical literary group "The Crowd" in San Francisco and a passionate advocate of unionization, socialism, and the rights of workers. He wrote several powerful works dealing with these topics, such as his dystopian novel The Iron Heel, his non-fiction exposé The People of the Abyss, and The War of the Classes. First serialized in Outing magazine, it was published in 1906. The story takes place in Yukon Territory, Canada, during the Klondike Gold Rush at the end of the 19th-century, and details a wild wolfdog's journey to domestication. White Fang is a companion novel (and a thematic mirror) to London's best-known work, The Call of the Wild, which is about a kidnapped, domesticated dog embracing his wild ancestry to survive and thrive in the wild. Much of the novel is written from the view-point of his canine character, enabling London to explore how animals view their world and how they view humans. White Fang examines the violent world of wild animals and the equally violent world of humans. The book also explores complex themes including morality and redemption. White Fang has been adapted for the screen numerous times, including a 1991 film starring Ethan Hawke. Revolution, and other Essays - Jack London

06:07:27
A collection of 13 essays written between 1900 and 1908, published in 1910. The lead essay, "Revolution", outlines how and why London renounced capitalism as a failed social system and declared himself an active participant in the "socialist revolution", the last essay is an autobiographical piece, and the essays in between are on diverse subjects. A few of the "essays" are actually humorous short fiction stories; others are serious, sometimes angry rants against capitalistic greed and political corruption. All of the pieces are thought-provoking and excellently written, though only loosely intellectual, highly opinionated, and rife with contradiction, as was London himself. -- Summary by Michele Fry Free Download as public Domain mp3: https://librivox.org/revolution-and-other-essays-by-jack-london/ Genre(s): Culture & Heritage Language: English Revolution Michele Fry 00:49:59 The Somnambulists Ignare 00:15:42 The Dignity of Dollars Ignare 00:16:18 Goliah, Part I Jeremy Robertson 00:25:07 Goliah, Part II Jeremy Robertson 00:23:08 The Golden Poppy KHand 00:21:56 The Shrinkage of the Planet Steve C 00:27:28 The House Beautiful Lucretia B. 00:29:54 The Gold Hunters of the North Phil Schempf 00:29:55 Fomá Gordyéeff Ignare 00:11:44 These Bones shall Rise Again Greg Giordano 00:21:05 The Other Animals DJRickyV 00:46:06 The Yellow Peril Sean Grabosky 00:26:07 What Life Means to Me Michele Fry 00:22:56

Before Adam - audiobook Jack LONDON (1876 - 1917) "Before Adam is a mixture of sound science and sci-fi speculation. It is based around Darwin's theory of evolution and the idea of racial memory. The main character lives in the current world but has dreams and nightmares that he relives the pre-stone age life of one of his proto-human ancestors. Those who are scientifically inclined may enjoy this novel more than fans of "standard" science fiction such as Edgar Rice Burroughs. Baker, Washington where cast and crew had to endure harsh winter conditions including blizzards, sub-zero temperatures and difficulty in obtaining supplies during filming. In this version, the role of Buck the dog is diminished and the main focus shifts to the romance between prospector Jack Thornton, and Claire, a young bride who is abandoned in a cabin by her gold-fevered husband.

To Build A Fire

04:41
"To Build a Fire" takes its name from a Jack London story set in extreme cold. The video was shot in subfreezing temperatures in the old Artkraft Strauss billboard factory, on 57th Street in New York City. The film does (very loosely) adopt some of the story's narrative structure, and shares the theme of the focus and beauty of a critical moment. In both works, seconds are stretched out and illuminated. The film is also about the contrast between wintry cold and the heat of sensuality--The visible vapor of a beautiful woman's breath marks the boundary and transition between warmth and chill. Enjoy!

White Fang Book Review

05:09
White Fang Book Review- One of the best books I've read in a while. Jack London is one of my favorite writers of all time. In fact his prose may be my favorite. White Fang is a novel about wolves and dogs and yet it is one of the manliest books I've ever read. Seriously. The Call Of The Wild and White Fang are awesome! JACK LONDON (AMOR A LA VIDA)

56:37
John Barleycorn or Alcoholic Memoirs (Book) by Jack London pt 26-32

01:32:20
John Barleycorn or Alcoholic Memoirs by Jack London (1876-1916) Jack London died at the age of forty. In this autobiographical work, London describes his life as seen through the eyes of John Barleycorn (alcohol). There is much controversy about the cause of his death just as there is about alcoholism and addiction. London's brutally frank and honest analysis of his own struggles and bouts with alcohol was way before its time and more modern theories of addiction. With remarkable candor and insight, London describes the demons and gods he encountered through both friend and enemy, John Barleycorn. (Summary by Peter Kelleher)

Jerome of a boating holiday on the Thames between Kingston and Oxford. The book was intended initially to be a serious travel guide, with accounts of local history of places along the route, but the humorous elements eventually took over, to the point where the serious and somewhat sentimental passages now seem like an unnecessary distraction to the essentially comic novel. One of the most praised things about Three Men in a Boat is how undated it appears to modern readers. The jokes seem fresh and witty even today. The three men were based on Jerome himself and two real-life friends, George, and Harris. The dog, Montmorency, however, was entirely fictional, but, as Jerome had remarked, "had much of me in it."
